Using the substances module, you can record the data and properties of hazardous substances and make them available to your employees. These data consist of all kinds of risk and safety information such as:
The program's search system ensures that the information is easily accessible on-line. In addition to the full name, you can also search by name or code (CAS number), which significantly increases the search options and quickly leads to the desired result. In this search you can use a filter that you have set up beforehand. The guidelines for working with a certain substance and the risks associated with it can thus be found easily.
You can view the information in various forms such as a standard safety data sheet (SDS), Workplace instruction Cards (WIC's) and hazard pictogram labels. You are free to determine the layout of the labels, for example. The SDS is prescribed by the EC in a standard format; currently the REACH regulations apply. SOFOS360 offers the possibility to print or export the information about a substance known as a complete safety data sheet (SDS) or as a shortened working instruction to e.g. PDF or MS Word by using the built-in report generator. The Information portal module provides this capability as well. This method also allows the statutory labelling to be made in different formats.
In addition, you use the substance module to include departments and persons of your Organization, and register by department and or person with which carcinogenic, mutagenic or reprotoxic (in short: CMR) substances they come into contact with.
When capturing the properties of a substance, a large number of tables are used to which the substance can be linked. These links seek to establish the properties in a uniform manner. It also regulates that the property is directly known to the substance in all languages. Of course, this mechanism only works correctly if the linked tables do not include synonyms. The scents ' odorless ' and ' does no smell ' should not both be defined. In The substances module, the tables that record such properties are included under settings. Maintenance on these tables must be performed by one or two users (application administrators).
You can choose to enter the data in the database yourself or extract data from an existing database into your system. If you choose to link an existing database, such as BIG, AZH, etc., you have direct access to extensive substance information.
